Really Tired of the Filth of Politics

I want to make one thing clear first. I love this country. But I am at a point where I really loathe what politics is doing to it.

Let’s consider the candidates for the next Presidential election and how campaigns are likely to be run. Smears all over the place. Minor faults and old mistakes made big and new. Reputations ruined by people all in the same political party just to gain that nomination in the primary.

Certainly some things need to come out. Knowing a candidates political history is quite important, as their history is vital to understanding their true beliefs.

Hillary Clinton will no doubt be a major target. As the outspoken wife of a former President, and now a Senator, lots of people truly, deeply loathe her and her politics. I’m not a fan myself, but I don’t like how many people talk about her. I think many don’t know what they’re talking about. She’s one of the candidates I’ll be watching pretty hard anyhow.

There’s no obvious solution to mud slinging politics. Even if a politician doesn’t want to indulge, someone else is likely to do so, and when you’re attacked that way it’s hard to not respond in kind.

I would love to see the voters quit permitting it. Trouble is that people love a scandal, love having an excuse to hate the other side. And yes, I do see a lot of hate on both sides. I’m not blaming Republicans or Democrats for that, I’m blaming both.

Frankly, I think the only solution is for some of the third parties to grow up and start presenting viable candidates. Too many of the candidates they present are too much on the fringe to appeal, even when I agree with them on some important topics.

And that’s a real pity.

I know a lot of people who would love to see a viable third party candidate. I could almost hope that the Republicans and Democrats play dirty enough to piss enough people off enough to make voters go for third parties. But my ideal would be to see cleaner politics and more honest politicians.

Yeah, it’s probably just a dream.
