The comment just wasn’t that funny, honey. I don’t care how much the audience laughed when you joked that you’d call John Edwards a faggot if it weren’t for the fact that you’d have to go into rehab for using that word. The “joke” is frankly offensive and childish.

Garbage like that is a symptom of the problem with mainstream politics today, and Ann Coulter is one of the most lowest practitioners of it. She loves saying that people are gay.

What, is she in the fourth grade or something?

I’ve said it before. The way politics go right now in this country is hugely frustrating to me. Personal attacks are preferred to actual comparisons of beliefs and plans. Sound bites are reality.

Both sides do it, but in my own experience I’ve heard worse from Republicans than Democrats. Might have to do with my father and my father-in-law both being the sort of Republicans who would probably enjoy that joke… except that I don’t think either would use the word “faggot.”

My one hope is that such offensive name calling will drive people away from the people doing the name calling. Unfortunately, too many people enjoy that crap and will probably clamor for more.

I write about this because it’s something out there, but I could really wish that instead of people listening to her, they just ignore her. Make her feel how socially unacceptable her rhetoric ought to be. Sad part is that it doesn’t seem to be, but I can hope.
